HONIGDIEB
25th Anniversary Concert of “BE YOURSELF”
25 Jahre "BE YOURSELF" Anniversary Concert
and a big party on December 26, 2026, at the Piano in Dortmund
It all began in January 2001, when the Honigdieb performed at the sold-out Jazz Days in Dortmund, leaving the audience stunned, outraged, yet utterly enthralled—including the mayor’s wife.
This musical blend of chanson, polka, and jazz—with a dash of rock and punk—enchanted the audience in a sort of circus ring that blended clowning, ballet, and a spectacle of neo-Dadaism.
The Honigdieb leaped over the rows of chairs filled with people, hit them on the head with cookie tins when he was playing the animal, and sang: “Oh, how nice that no one knows I like to bite my neighbors sometimes…”
Then he sits on the lap of a 90-year-old woman and sings, “When are we going to have phone sex again?” Leave your number on my answering machine, and asks her for her
Cellphone-Number
Then he dances with a young man wearing a women's fur hat and sings “Oh, you sweet little one, be my Heiner,” accompanied throughout his performance by his fantastic band.
Most of the Honigdieb musicians come from a classical background, and the instrumentation—featuring violin, double bass, flute, guitar, drums, and exotic small instruments—celebrates this life-affirming, groovy, danceable sound.
In 2002, the Honigdiebe played 14 concerts in China and really rocked the house in front of sold-out crowds.
In the song “Lust auf Lust,” Sir Hannes sings his own catchphrase, “IF YOU WANT TO FUCK, YOU HAVE TO BE FRIENDS,” and the Japanese model encourages thousands of Chinese people to clap along to the beat—just like on Dieter Thomas Heck’s hit parade. The atmosphere is electric, and the Chinese audience is in a state of complete ecstasy at the concerts.
This happens later at the huge Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbühl. (40,000) Thousands of metalheads form a massive conga line to the song “Auf der Suche nach dem Glück.” Total chaos!
This was followed by tours with New Model Army, two tours with Chumbawamba, Saltatio Mortis, Apokalyptischen Reiter, and many other tours, festivals, and concerts. Four albums, a double live album, and the current Schmetterling EP have been released.
We’re really looking forward to December 26, 2026, when we’ll be playing a special “best of” set and inviting everyone to dance.
We’ve invited a fantastic indie band from Hagen called „Zentaurus“ to perform, and after the concert, we’d love for you to join us for a dance party where “Pedro” will be spinning some classics.
Let's dance and celebrate! We can't wait to see you!
